SAM SHORT CIBACHROME 1997 DALIA PHOTO 1/5 PRINT.

As our friend, Sam shot all our family photos. She was highly skilled at capturing the situation and spirit of the moment. These CIBACHROME prints bring out the vibrancy of Sam's work. There is much to be said about her process. Needless to say the use of CIBACHROME is one of her progressive and now timeless choices. Regretfully Sam lost her battle with cancer.

CIBACHROME print was a high-quality, direct-positive color photographic print made from a color transparency, noted for its vivid colors, sharpness, and exceptional long-term stability.

The process uses a unique paper with incorporated dyes, which are revealed by selectively bleaching away unwanted dyes during development, rather than forming them chemically as in standard C-prints. Originally known as CIBACHROME, the process was later renamed Ilfochrome but was discontinued in 2012 after the bankruptcy of Ilford, the company that acquired the process.

Shortly after the last production run of CIBACHROME was delivered, Ilford Switzerland declared bankruptcy, the employees were dispersed, the property sold, the equipment scraped. After almost 50 years, it was over. Hard to accept, but CIBACHROME will never be made again.
