Webster-Chicago Model 180-1 "Electronic Memory" portable wire recorder, introduced in 1949 and designed to record and reproduce sound magnetically on steel wire. The metal control panel incorporates a Webster-Chicago wire spool, take-up drum, elapsed-time indicator, record/listen selector, volume and tone controls, run and rewind controls, input socket, output socket, and three-position output selector. The recorder is housed in an integrated maroon textured carrying case with hinged lid, handle, metal latches, accessory retainers, and operating instruction label. The identification plate specifies operation on 105-120 volts AC, 60 cycles, and 55 watts.
