Antique Remington Rolling Block Rifle circa 1886

Remington Rolling Block is a family of breech-loading rifles that was produced from
the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later
Remington Arms)
The Remington Rolling Block was developed from the 1863 pattern .50 calibre split
breech carbine issued to the US Cavalry during the American Civil War.

This particular gun is in unknown caliber.
None of the modern cartridges fitted - 45-70 was to long - 300 WSM brass was too wide..

These rifles were made in a variety of calibers, both rimfire and centerfire, including
the 12.17x42 mm rimfire, 12.17x44 mm rimfire and other Swedish and Norwegian
cartridges - also 43 Spanish (11.15x58mmR), .50-70, .40-70, .45-70.

Barrel measures 35 inches long and bore is dark - rifling is evident but needs cleaning.
Metal condition is an even dark patina with some pitting evident ontop of barrel
towards the muzzle.

Wood is 2 peice stock. Under barrel forestock has a crack on r/h side near receiver.
Rear stock is good with tiny crack by tang. Finish is worn and wood is dark.

Gun appears to function as intended.
The only markings are on upper tang - Remington Ilon NY USA Pat May 3rd Nov 15th 1864
April 17th 1886 - which are clear.

We would still require a PAL to purchase just incase.
